Build intercultural competence and global citizenship.
2020 Tactics
  • The Special Committee on Internationalization Strategy Development developed a set of recommendations to strengthen global learning at Dominican. Representatives from both academic and non-academic units participated on these efforts. The Global Learning Advisory Committee was established to implement the recommendations.
  • A Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Campus Center recognized by Association of American Colleges and Universities was established. The goals of the TRHT Campus Centers are to:
  1. Create a positive narrative about race;
  2. Promote healing activities on campus and in the community;
  3. Erase structural barriers to equal treatment and opportunities within the economic, legal, educational, and residential components of the community.
  • Launched a collaborative project with the Anti‐Defamation League (ADL) to implement a nationally recognized curriculum resource (Hate Uncycled) to address hate and bias incidents on college campuses. Dominican sponsored two planning meetings for 15 colleges and universities in the Midwest. Provided feedback and expertise for the development of an initial pilot launching in 2020 with a planning year involved.
  • Contract with consultant, Gina Garcia, PhD (University of Pittsburgh) to provide recommendations for enhancing the University’s identity as an Hispanic Serving Institution.

2020 Progress Points
  • Launched the Center for Cultural Liberation with El Centro and The Village as pillars, and including student leadership from Black Student Union, National Association of Colored Women, Undocumented and Immigrant Student Allyance, Common Ground, and Organization of Latin American Students.
  • Improved our relationship with River Forest Police Department for training and support of response to student needs that are culturally responsive and trauma informed. Enhanced training with Campus Safety to respond to incidents to decrease the calls needed to RFPD for support.
  • Created covenant with the Village of River Forest to advance racial justice with neighboring community.
