In the News: Accepted to 39 Colleges and Universities, Amia Jackson Chooses Dominican

An outpouring of scholarships and acceptance to 39 different colleges and universities across the country earned Amia Jackson local recognition in a WGN TV news feature this spring.

But with so many colleges from which to choose, Jackson ultimately decided upon Dominican University.

“Dominican did give me the best offer financially and being closer to home made me feel a lot more comfortable knowing I have family 30 minutes away and I can see them any time I need to,” Jackson said in an interview with Dominican. “Also, I like that Dominican has smaller class sizes. I can get more help and not worry about sitting in a classroom of 200 students.”

A 2022 graduate of Willowbrook High School and a member of the National Honor Society, Jackson was interviewed by WGN TV in April after amassing approximately $2 million in scholarship and grant offers and receiving letters of acceptance from 39 public and private schools that wanted to welcome her as a freshman.

Jackson is a recipient of a Pillars Scholarship from Dominican and has been recruited to compete on the women’s bowling team, said Reuben Burnley, senior associate director of admission.

Jackson said she plans to study business administration at Dominican. She hopes to make new friends and is looking forward to new experiences on the River Forest campus.

“I feel like I didn’t put myself out there as much as I wanted to in high school, so hopefully in college I will get to know new people and make a name for myself,” she said.
