Prepare for a Career That Counts
The multimedia journalism minor will introduce you to thought leaders and expose you to social issues in the communities you cover and come to understand. You’ll gain insight into human need and potential. You’ll actively consider how you might work, as a professional and a citizen, to create a more just and humane world. The honest, capable working journalist has never been more important to society. This major will prepare you for that role and many others that require the capacity to gather evidence and present findings reliably and effectively on a variety of traditional and emerging platforms.
This minor in communication teaches the bedrock skills of news reporting and writing and enables students to acquire the technical capacity to report and tell stories using audio, visual, and textual media on multiple platforms—online, broadcast, social media, and print.
Students will complement this expertise with in-depth study of media law, history, theory, criticism, and ethics. This course of study will prepare students for careers in the news media and also provide the background in critical thinking, problem solving, and clear writing necessary for success in a wide range of other careers or graduate programs.
