Ready to take the next step? Applying to Dominican is simple—start your application today and begin your journey toward becoming a Star.

When you apply to Dominican as a first-year student, your high school academic performance, engagement in and outside of the classroom and your essay are key factors in our holistic admission review decisions—but who you are as a person is equally important. We’re committed to tearing down barriers to higher education. That’s why Dominican University is test optional and no longer requires ACT and/or SAT scores for admission.

Candidates looking to enroll at Dominican should meet the following criteria:

  • A cumulative grade-point average of 2.70 on a 4.0 scale, with special attention to grades in high school core courses
  • An ACT composite score of 21 or 1060 SAT or above* (optional)
    • Your scores can only help you. While we will accept scores if submitted to us, we will not use them for admission decisions.
  • A rank in the upper half of the high school class, when rank is provided
  • Sixteen units of high school course work, fourteen of which should be in the fields of English, mathematics, foreign language, social science, and laboratory science

We believe finances shouldn’t stand in the way of helping you find your purpose. That’s why we’re dedicated to keeping a Dominican education affordable.

Top-Tier Academics. Unmatched Affordability.

Dominican is recognized as one of the best small universities in the Midwest. The prestigious “Best Colleges” review by U.S. News & World Report places Dominican in the Top 25 overall in the Midwest out of more than 160 regional Midwest universities. We’re the highest-ranking small Catholic university in Illinois. And we are No. 1 in Illinois on the publication’s “Best Value Schools” list, a category that closely examines academic quality and average net cost of attendance.

The rigor and personal attention we bring to the Dominican learning experience also applies to making your education affordable. Dominican’s tuition is below the national average for four-year private colleges and universities. And, each year, we invest more than $30 million to support student financial aid.
