Residence Halls

When you live in the residence halls you’re part of the campus—close to the library, labs and classrooms. You can grab a bite in the Cyber Cafe or fill up at the Dining Hall—then work it off in the Fitness Center. Best of all, your friends—old friends and the ones you haven't made yet—are right around the corner.

Coughlin Hall

Coughlin Hall offers primarily double-occupancy rooms, with a capacity for 155 students. Coughlin Hall houses mostly first-year students, and consists of three floors including both single-sex and co-ed living arrangements: the 1st floor is female-only and the 2nd floor is gender inclusive. Two Resident Assistants (RA) reside on each floor. Each room has a sink, bed, desk, chair and closet. A lounge connects the second and third floors to Power Hall. Laundry facilities are located on Coughlin 1. Student mailboxes are located on the first floor across from the Residence Life offices.

Coughlin Hall is named for Mother Samuel Coughlin, OP, a member of the Sinsinawa Dominican community, who succeeded Mother Emily Power as prioress in 1909.

Our newest residence hall, Murray Hall, formerly known as Centennial Hall, opened in January 2004 in celebration of over 100 years of education at Dominican University. Murray Hall features double-room clusters (two double rooms sharing a common bath) and suite style living options for up to 178 returning students. Floors 2-4 include a lounge equipped with study tables, couches, chairs and Internet connection. Laundry facilities are located on the second, third, and fourth floors. Murray Hall houses students of all classes, from first-years to seniors. The building has central air conditioning, which can be controlled in each room and all floors are accessible by elevator.

Room Types
  • Murray Hall Cluster Double Room
    A majority of Murray Hall rooms are arranged in a cluster-style living arrangement. Two double occupancy rooms share a common bathroom in cluster-style living. All rooms in Murray Hall are equipped with modular furniture, including a bed, desk, swivel chair, roller storage cart, small dresser and mattress for each resident, plus a closet.
  • Murray Hall Suites (upperclass students only)
    Murray Hall residents have the option of living with 6-8 friends in our popular suite style living, sharing a large common area. The shared common area contains many apartment-style amenities such as a kitchenette with sink, full-sized refrigerator, microwave, a couch, kitchen table and storage space. Each suite contains two bathrooms for resident use.
Suite Requirements

Students interested in living in a suite, must meet the following requirements:

  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA at time of application
  • Submit Suite Proposal to Residence Life

Murray suites are made available to upperclass students during the Room Selection Process in the spring semester.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors live on the second through fourth floors of Power Hall, while administrative offices occupy the first floor. Power Hall features single rooms with some double and triple occupancy rooms. Rooms are equipped with a phone, Internet connection and cable. Each room has a sink, bed, desk, chair, and dresser or wardrobe. This residence hall also contains large community lounges with room to study or hang out. Roughly 150 students live in this hall, which is accessible by elevator.

The fourth floor of Power Hall has a substance-free wing. Students who choose to abstain from alcohol, nicotine and other drugs live on this floor of Power Hall. Students who prefer this environment can request to live there and must fill out an addendum to their housing contract.
