DU Alum is Nominee for Teacher of the Year

Michael Biondo '03 is a nominee for the 2025 National History Day Teacher of the Year Award in the senior division.
Biondo teaches social science at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, where he is also an instructional coach. He has been an educator with Maine Township High School District 207 since 2003.
National History Day (NHD) is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of history through programs and a national contest.
According to NHD, the Teacher of the Year Award nominees “demonstrate a commitment to engaging students in historical learning through the innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills and participation in the National History Day Contest.”
National winners in the junior and senior high school divisions will be selected by a committee of teachers and historians. The winners will be announced on June 12, NHD said.
Biondo, representing Illinois in the senior division, is one of 71 educators across the country under consideration for the two national awards.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Dominican University, with a minor in English.
