Dr. Claudia Herrera-Montero, assistant professor of Theology, and Andrew Mercado, director of University Ministry, taught a theology course this summer as part of the Hispanic Scholars Program.

Thanks to the HSP and Dominican University’s PASOS Network, six Dominican University students traveled to Duke University where they joined an additional six other college students from across the country in a four-day, three-credit course taught by Herrera-Montero and Mercado. The course was entitled “U.S. Latinx Theology and Cultura: Imagining Teología Latinamente!”

DU students who participated were Vanessa Bello Hernandez, Fatima Calderon, Jesus Chavez, Natalie Garcia, Cristina Macias, and Yesenia Muros. Joining the group was PASOS Director Armando Guerrero Estrada.

The Hispanic Scholars Program is a nonprofit organization supporting the growth and development of Latine undergraduate and graduate students in theology and religious studies.
