Graphic Design Major Creates River Forest Juneteenth Logo

Jose Luis Manra Dominguez, a rising junior at Dominican University, was the designer of a logo commemorating the village of River Forest’s Juneteenth celebration.
A graphic design/art major, Manra Dominguez created the logo for use on flyers and signs advertising the River Forest Juneteenth flag raising ceremony on June 18 at the River Forest Public Library. The logo also appeared on T-shirts made for ceremony participants.
“When I went to the event and saw the flyers and T-shirts, I was really proud,” he said.

This was Manra Dominguez’s first freelance graphic design project, he said. He was selected after answering an ad looking for submissions for this year’s logo. Other than incorporating the Juneteenth flag and colors with the date of event, Manra Dominguez’s only other requirement was that he “just be creative,” he said.
“I wanted to show freedom and unity,” he explained of his design.
Manra Dominguez said he hopes to add to his design portfolio through future internships, with a goal of creating images that feel inspirational to the viewer.
River Forest’s Juneteenth flag raising had additional DU representation: Kayla Jackson-Wolff, university minister, performed with the Jackson-Wolff Band, the featured musical guest.
