Jocelyn Ramirez Named Lincoln Academy Student Laureate

Jocelyn Ramirez, a marketing major and president of Dominican University’s Women in Business organization, is the recipient of the university’s 2025-26 Student Laureate Award from the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.
The award recognizes Ramirez for excellence in academics, community service and overcoming obstacles on the path to achievement.
Ramirez, a rising senior, will receive the award during a ceremony in Springfield this fall.
In addition to her role with Women in Business, Ramirez is a member of the DU chapter of ALPFA, the Association of Latino Professionals for America, where she works as marketing director, connecting first-generation students with Latino business professionals. She is also a resident assistant at Dominican’s River Forest campus, a mentor for students at Trinity High School, a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society, marketing coordinator for the Student Government Association, reporter for the Dominican Star, and a member of the DU women’s soccer team. Last year, she worked as an intern for ShopDU, the university’s platform highlighting small businesses started by alumni and current students.
“As a first-generation college student, I have navigated unfamiliar territory, driven by the dreams of my family and the sacrifices of my ancestors,” Ramirez wrote in a personal statement that was part of her Student Laureate nomination. “My academic achievements, leadership roles and commitment to service reflect my determination to uplift others and create lasting change. Through mentoring, advocacy and community engagement, I strive to amplify marginalized voices and pave the way for future generations.”
In her nomination letter, Dr. Anjali Chaudhry, professor of business, credited Ramirez as “a powerful role model for others so that women in business can prove every day that they belong, that they can lead, innovate and thrive.”
“I know that she embodies the resilience and determination that is necessary to stand up for oneself and for others,” Chaudhry added.
