There’s a new Christmas tree standing tall in Rebecca Crown Library.

The tree, located just outside the Contemplation Space, contains dozens of ornaments created by students, faculty and staff in the WeatherTech Innovation Lab. The star at the top of the tree, modeled after Dominican's star logo, was crafted with the lab’s 3D printer.

The tree replaces the book tree that appeared in the library in past years. That tree was created with dozens of large, green Library of Congress books, but the books have since been removed from the library’s collection, so new holiday décor was needed.

“We had to do something to live up to the book tree’s legacy,” Allison Liesz, technical services coordinator, said of the new artificial tree and its original ornaments made by the Dominican community.

Creative opportunities are available year-round in the Innovation Lab, located inside Rebecca Crown Library. A makerspace and lab of emerging technologies, the lab features resources like 3D printing, vinyl cutter, sewing and embroidery machines, movie-making kits, a button maker, laptop computers with Adobe Creative Suite, and more.
