In the News: Alum, Basketball Coach Finds New Calling in Youth Ministry

Jose Garcia ’10 is the subject of a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story about his decision to step down as a successful school basketball coach and pursue a new calling in ministry.
Garcia, head boys basketball coach at Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic Academy, announced plans to leave his coaching job to become a youth pastor at FaithBridge Church in Deer Park, Texas.
The article notes that Garcia’s decision to pursue full-time ministry is the culmination of a journey that has taken place over many years.
Garcia played for the DU Stars, receiving All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference honors in 2007 and 2008. He graduated with a degree in business administration and also became an assistant basketball coach for the Stars.
In 2013, as an assistant coach at Carthage College, Garcia started Anointed Hoops, a non-profit ministry for at-risk and fatherless middle school and high school boys in Kenosha.
