In the News: Psychology Alumna Featured in Quad Cities News Program

Lauryn Bergert ’21 was the focus of a recent television news profile in her hometown.

KWQC TV-6 News in Davenport, Iowa, interviewed Bergert for a segment of Real Conversations in the Quad Cities, which aired on June 30. 

Bergert, a Quad Cities native who received a degree in psychology from Dominican University, spoke about growing up biracial and the need for better representation within the psychology field.

In a separate written piece focused on Bergert, she expanded further on this need.

“In the U.S., only 4% of psychologists are Black,” she said. “We must increase the representation of people of color in many different fields to let young Black and brown children know that they can do anything they set their minds to. Before I met one of my mentors, I had never met or seen a Black psychologist.”

Bergert is currently pursuing a doctorate in psychology and is an adjunct instructor of psychology at Dominican.
