Star Spotlight: Jariel Ramos ’28, Political Science
Jariel Ramos sees the world through the lens of an environmentalist.
Whether it’s limiting his personal plastic use and consumption, or lobbying Wisconsin elected officials to take action on Earth-friendly legislation, he has embraced the life of a climate activist.
“To me, climate activism is just a fancy way of saying I care for the planet and I’m taking action to meet the goals I’ve set,” Jariel says. “I think anybody can be an activist.”
His dedication as an environmentalist led to a summer internship with the city of Milwaukee’s Environmental Collaboration Office where he promoted the office’s work on sustainable initiatives. National Public Radio took notice of his passion for climate action and profiled him in a story.
Jariel aspires to serve in elected office in his home state of Wisconsin so he can make meaningful decisions on environmental protections. But first, he hopes to create a student organization at DU dedicated to collaborative environmental action and advocacy.
“There’s a lot of opportunity here at Dominican to do some impactful work and I’m really eager to get started,” he said.
