She previously served as the director of social justice ministries at Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago.

As a DU alumna, Jackson-Wolff’s commitment to her work also reflects her personal connections to the university and its students.

“Kayla understands the campus not just as a workplace, but as a formative space that shaped her and now benefits from her leadership,” said Dr. Precious Porras, vice president for justice, equity and inclusion at Dominican. “What makes her impact especially meaningful is the way she brings her full self into the work. Whether it is the warmth of a well-timed hug, her ability to connect through music, or the care she extends in everyday interactions, Kayla creates an environment where students feel seen and valued. That relational approach is not incidental. It is foundational to building trust and fostering belonging for Black students navigating college.”

The Black Excellence Award recognizes recipients for their scholarship, community service and passion for elevating inclusion, access to education and resources impacting the health and wellness of Black and African American students at Dominican University.
