Black World Studies Learning Goals and Outcomes
Vision Statement
The vision of the Black World Studies program is to produce well-rounded graduates who understand cultural pluralism and racial diversity; are able to interpret historical, cultural, political, and socioeconomic experiences of peoples of African descent; and actively engage in the study of the linkages and relationships between Africans on the continent and those in diaspora. The Black World Studies program challenges students to explore different cultures and countries and with them celebrates diversity and mutual respect for one another, through which we can eradicate racism and ethnocentrism as we strive to restore African dignity and consciousness.
Student Learning Goal
Students will understand the experiences and, most importantly, the contributions of the peoples of African ancestry to the rest of the world.
Student Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- State the contributions of individual Africans to the contemporary world.
- Describe African culture before it was colonized.
- Articulate the impact of colonization in Africa.
- Give examples of Colonial Mentality: the impact or the manifestation of post- colonialism in Africa today.
