Teacher Licensure: Secondary Education

Students who wish to teach mathematics in grades 9 through 12 complete a major in mathematics and they complete the School of Education’s Teacher Education Program for secondary licensure.

  • Students complete professional education courses as described in the University Bulletin

  • Teacher candidates must take and pass two IL State Board of Education (ISBE) approved assessments: 

    1. IL Content Area Test (prior to student teaching)

    2. edTPA Teacher Performance Assessment (during student teaching) 

    3. All education courses presented for licensure must be passed with a C- or better and an overall GPA of 2.75 is required. 

  • Teacher candidates must apply to the Teacher Education Program before taking more than three education courses. The following criteria are required for acceptance to the Teacher Education Program: 

    1. Grade of C or better in your first education class at DU or in transfer 

    2. Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75

    3. Clear fingerprint and background check following the steps outlined in the CPS Field Experience Guide
