Title IX

Dominican University is committed to ensuring a just and humane campus where all community members have the capacity to thrive. When the behavior of some community members challenges the well-being of others, the Title IX team determines, to the extent possible, whether the University’s policies related to Title IX and sex-based discrimination were violated. The University takes these reports seriously and is committed to following up on reports of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and discrimination.

What is Title IX?

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of sex in educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX protects students, faculty and staff, and prohibits gender-based and sexual misconduct.

How do I report a Title IX incident?

To report a Title IX incident, visit Title IX and Bias Reporting. 

If you (or someone you know) has experienced harassment or violence:

  • Get to a safe place as soon as possible.
    • If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
  • Seek medical attention, if necessary.
    • Even if an individual has not been physically hurt, a timely medical examination is recommended for forensic evidence to be collected and preserved. 
    • Take a full change of clothing, including shoes, for use after a medical examination.
    • An individual may choose to allow the collection of evidence by medical personnel even if they choose not to make a report to the police.
  • Preserve all evidence of the crime.
    • Avoid showering, rinsing one’s mouth, smoking, or changing clothes.
    • Do not launder or discard bedding or otherwise clean the area where the assault occurred. 
      • Put all clothing that was worn at the time of the incident in a paper bag.
    • Preserve all electronic communication that occurred before, during, or after the assault. 
  • Consider reporting to Campus Safety and/or 911.
