FIRST YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS
Merit Awards 2024-2025
First-year bachelor’s degree students are automatically considered for these scholarships regardless of financial need.

Presidential Scholarship | $23,000 | Selection is based on academic merit: cumulative grade-point average and academic rigor, class rank and ACT/SAT scores if submitted (optional). Positive Science Identity Scholarship | Up to $10,000 | Students intending to major in biology, biology-chemistry or chemistry. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is eligible for federal Pell grant. |
Hearst Scholarship for Direct Entry Nursing | $7,800 | Two scholarships will be awarded with priority given to students who demonstrate financial need and are from underrepresented backgrounds. |
Ida Brechtel Scholarship | Up to $7,500 | Chemistry and biology-chemistry majors with a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale. |
Barbantini Family Scholarship | $5,000 | Admitted students with a 3.0/4.0 grade-point average who are interested in taking one course in Italian per semester. |
Westlake Health Nursing Scholarship | Varies | Students planning to major in nursing who live in western suburbs of Chicago. |
Brennan Business Scholars | Varies | Participants in the Brennan Business Scholars program with a minimum 3.5 GPA or 23 ACT/1130 SAT. Must attend the February Admitted Students Day. |
TheDream.US | Varies | Two scholarship opportunities are available for undocumented students through TheDream.US organization. |
The Pillars Scholarship | Varies | Admitted freshman students with a cumulative 3.25/4.0 grade-point average who are interested in becoming urban leaders committed to social justice. Priority given to African American students. |

TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS
Merit Awards 2024-2025
All full-time transfer students with at least 13 transferable credit hours are automatically considered for these scholarships regardless of financial need. Selection is based on a cumulative grade-point average. These scholarships are renewable for a maximum of three years of college attendance.

GRANTS AND LOANS Need-based aid
Grants
Like scholarships, these funds do not have to be paid back. But while scholarships are typically awarded based on academic merit, grants are awarded based on financial need. Freshmen and transfer students are automatically considered for the following need-based grants and work-study assistance. File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov soon after December 31. Our institutional code is 001750.

The government-sponsored William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Programs offer competitive borrowing rates. These borrowed funds can help pay costs not covered by scholarships, grants and your own resources. Unlike the other types of aid discussed in this brochure, loans must be repaid.
