FIRST YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS 

Merit Awards 2024-2025

First-year bachelor’s degree students are automatically considered for these scholarships regardless of financial need.

Scholarship Annual Award Details 
Presidential Scholarship $23,000 Selection is based on academic merit: cumulative grade-point average and academic rigor, class rank and ACT/SAT scores if submitted (optional). Dean’s Scholarship $20,000 
Founder’s Scholarship $18,000 
Achievement Scholarship $15,000 
Recognition Scholarship $12,000 

Additional Awards 

Bachelor’s degree may students also qualify for one or more of the following awards, depending on the specific criteria listed below. These scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years of college attendance.

Scholarship Annual Award Details 
Positive Science Identity Scholarship Up to $10,000 Students intending to major in biology, biology-chemistry or chemistry. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is eligible for federal Pell grant. 
Hearst Scholarship for Direct Entry Nursing $7,800 Two scholarships will be awarded with priority given to students who demonstrate financial need and are from underrepresented backgrounds. 
Ida Brechtel Scholarship Up to $7,500 Chemistry and biology-chemistry majors with a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale. 
Barbantini Family Scholarship $5,000 Admitted students with a 3.0/4.0 grade-point average who are interested in taking one course in Italian per semester. 

Westlake Health 

Nursing Scholarship 

Varies Students planning to major in nursing who live in western suburbs of Chicago. 
Brennan Business Scholars Varies Participants in the Brennan Business Scholars program with a minimum 3.5 GPA or 23 ACT/1130 SAT. Must attend the February Admitted Students Day. 
TheDream.US Varies Two scholarship opportunities are available for undocumented students through TheDream.US organization. 
The Pillars Scholarship Varies Admitted freshman students with a cumulative 3.25/4.0 grade-point average who are interested in becoming urban leaders committed to social justice. Priority given to African American students.

TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS

Merit Awards 2024-2025 

All full-time transfer students with at least 13 transferable credit hours are automatically considered for these scholarships regardless of financial need. Selection is based on a cumulative grade-point average. These scholarships are renewable for a maximum of three years of college attendance.

Dean’s Scholarship $16,000 Transfer GPA of 3.3 to 3.49 
Founder’s Scholarship $15,000 Transfer GPA of 3.0 to 3.29 
Achievement Scholarship $12,000 Transfer GPA of 2.75 to 2.99 
Recognition Scholarship $10,000 All other accepted transfer students

 GRANTS AND LOANS Need-based aid

 

Grants 

Like scholarships, these funds do not have to be paid back. But while scholarships are typically awarded based on academic merit, grants are awarded based on financial need. Freshmen and transfer students are automatically considered for the following need-based grants and work-study assistance. File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov soon after December 31. Our institutional code is 001750.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) $300-$1,600 Pell recipients with greatest need (limited funding) 
Illinois Monetary Award Program Grant (MAP) $8,400 State grant for Illinois residents, including eligible undocumented disqualified from federal financial aid. 
Campus Employment Annual Amount Details 
Federal Work-Study $2,500 average Wages from part-time campus jobs. Funds are received in the form of a paycheck. 
Dominican Employment $2,500 average

 Federal Student Loans 

The government-sponsored William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Programs offer competitive borrowing rates. These borrowed funds can help pay costs not covered by scholarships, grants and your own resources. Unlike the other types of aid discussed in this brochure, loans must be repaid. Subsidized Federal Direct Loan 

Current interest rate 5.50%* 

Up to $3,500 for freshmen 

Up to $4,500 for sophomores 

Up to $5,500 for juniors and seniors 

Subsidized loans are based on financial need. Repayment can be deferred and the federal government pays the interest for you until you leave school or drop below half-time enrollment. 

Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan 

Current interest rate 7.05%* 

Varies from $2,000-$7,500 Repayment can be deferred until you leave school or drop below half-time enrollment, but the government does not pay the interest that accrues while you’re in school. 

Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) 

Current interest rate 8.05%* 

Up to cost of attendance minus other aid Repayment can be deferred while the student is enrolled.
