The next chapter of Dominican University athletics has officially arrived.

As the university celebrates its 100th anniversary in River Forest, it’s time for a new look and logo. Dominican’s revitalized athletic brand pays homage to the university’s storied history while also showcasing its bright future through a fresh, distinctive design.

The new version of Dominican’s iconic Star integrates university colors and symbolizes the connectivity of the community and the teamwork that has always been a hallmark of Dominican Athletics.

The Summer 2022 edition of U.S. Catholic Historian features articles with connections to Dominican University, as well as Dominican ministry. “Dominicans in America” is the title of the summer edition, which includes four scholarly articles on this theme.

Eugene Giudice MLIS ’07 was recently named a fellow of the Special Libraries Association, a nonprofit global organization providing support and career development for information professionals.

SLA fellows act as mentors to those who are entering the library profession.

Jermaine Lawrence Anderson ’04 was recently featured in the Chicago Sun-Times as the mentorship organization he founded kicked off a month of free haircuts to Chicago youth heading back to school.

The haircut drive is taking place by appointment every Monday and Wednesday through Sept. 7 at the headquarters of Anderson’s organization, I Am A Gentleman, in Bridgeport.

Approximately 250 haircuts are expected to be given by the time the drive concludes.

Jashui Zarate Torres, a rising sophomore at Dominican University, is wrapping up a summer of conducting studies in learning and memory as the recipient of the 2022 Moskal Scholar Award for neuroscience research.

The Moskal Scholars program provides funding to neuroscience students involved in summer research projects, and Torres has been contributing to ongoing student research on memory using sea slugs in the Slug Lab

The largest class of incoming freshman in Dominican University’s history has arrived on campus.

While the final number of new first-year students will not be available until the September census,  more than 630 net deposits have so far been received, said Genaro Balcazar, vice president of enrollment management.

While the number may fluctuate a bit between now and then, it is clear that this will be the university’s largest freshman class, exceeding 2016’s record of 497 students.

After two years away from campus, the Summer Gifted and Talented Program at Dominican University returned this season with more than 30 course offerings for children.

The four-week program, now in its 35th year, wrapped up on July 22 with about 200 students taking part in a wide range of one-week classes focused on science, math, technology and the creative arts.

The program is staffed by Chicago area teachers, many of whom — like the students — return year after year.
